Kiwanis Supports Children of the World
MILO-BROWNVILLE - Three Rivers Kiwanis of Milo-Brownville Supports Children of the World announces that Iodine deficiency is the leading preventable cause of mental retardation, stillbirths and a wide range of serious disabilities in the world today. Iodine deficiency disorders are most prevalent in mountainous or flood-prone regions of the world, where iodine has been dissolved from the soil and washed away. More than 1.5 billion people are at risk of IDD, including hundreds of millions of children. Kiwanis International has pledged to raise $75 million dollars to eradicate Iodine Deficiency. We are approaching that goal with help from all Kiwanis Family groups, the United Nations Children's Fund , the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and many other partnerships.

The week of April 29th -May 5th is Skip A Meal for the children of the World Week. During this week Kiwanis family members are asked to forgo just one breakfast, lunch or dinner and contribute the money that would have been spent to the Kiwanis International Foundation for the fight against Iodine Deficiency Disorders. For those unable to skip a meal for medical or other reasons, forgo a movie rental, an evening's entertainment, etc. and donate the money to IDD.

Three Rivers Kiwanis Club members and Key Clubbers will also be taking donations for IDD in specially marked canisters around the community during the week of April 29th-May 5th. Let's all make an effort to give our support to the health of the children of the world by eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders.

DON'T JUST BE INVOLVED - BE COMMITTED.
