Leave the Light on, God
Friday, March 28, 2003
I know my God's heart is deeply wounded; grieved
He asks us to hold on;
When our loved ones must leave
Have faith; take my hand
I'll see you thru the storm
Their legacy is already engraved in;
The annals of time
They took our place; these brave men and women
America's best; nearly all in their prime
Code-name,"Operation Freedom," no more, no less
In the service of their homeland
They surpassed the test
Our heroes; we salute you; with honor; with love
Now, saints, robed in white
'Round the throne; up above.
Our eyes brim with tears
Our hearts break in sorrow
A messenger confirmed our worst fears
God, grant us strength for tomorrow
Their passage is dangerous
Wrought with pain
They've nothing more to lose
And everything to gain
So, leave the light on, God
In the haven of rest
Please tend to our loved ones
They have given their best
Our Star Spangled Banner
May it forever wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave.
