OBITUARIES

ARIEL VICTOR COLBY JR.
NEWPORT: Ariel Victor Colby Jr. 66 died July 3, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital following a short period of ill health. He was born in Newport May 16, 1939 the son of Ariel V. and Alice (Gould) Colby Sr.. He was educated in Newport schools. Ariel was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. For over 30 years he was employed at several local shoe shops as a hand sewer. He also owned and operated Vic’s Wholesale on the Lunt Road in Newport for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and stopping at yard sales.

He is survived by one son Charles V. Colby of Skowhegan, four daughters Debra J. Conklin of St. Albans, Tina M. Jones of Ripley, Tonya Y. Colby of Newport, Tavia L. Colby of Newport, one brother William L. Colby of Hartland, two sisters Ann L. Howe and Charleen Stackpole both of Pittsfield, four grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be remembered by the mother of his children Carol J. Colby of Newport. A son Robert predeceased him.

At his request there are no public visitations. Graveside services will be conducted 10 AM Friday July 8, 2005 at Riverside Cemetery Newport with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home 34 High St. Newport.
