BAYARD PFUNTNER PEAKES
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Bayard Pfuntner Peakes, died July 1, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Center in Togas from cardiac arrest.He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, December 14, 1922, son of Benjamin and Barbara Peakes. As a teenager, Bayard loved to fish and his poetry appeared in a Foxcroft Academy publication. Awarded a scholarship to Renessler Polytecnic Institute in New York State; he chose rather, after graduating from the Academy, to go to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Following the United States entry into the war, he transferred to our Air Force in England. After his discharge from the military, he attended Northeastern University in Boston. Circumstances prevented his return to Maine to live until the 1970’s and he was able to care for his aging mother for five and a half years, until May of 1978. Togas then became his home.

Survivors include his brother, Alfred of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington; his sister, Constance, of Cottage Grove, Oregon; two nieces and three nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the Pfuntner-Peakes family plot in the Gray Cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.
