BEVERLY J. FRIEND
NEWPORT, Beverly J. Friend, 78, died October 28, 2006, at a Pittsfield Hospital. She was born in Corinna, May 9, 1928, daughter of Frederic and Marion (Frees) Perkins. She graduated from Oak Grove Academy in Vassalboro and attended Wheelock College in Boston. Beverly was active in community affairs, including the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Newport Recreation Committee, and the Newport Public Library. Bev will always be remembered by her friends and family for her wonderful humor and her incredible cooking.

She is survived by her husband, Peter C. Friend of Newport; a son and his wife, Cooper F. and Meredith Friend of Ellsworth; a daughter and her husband, Anne and Bill Pidgeon of Milbridge; 3 grandchildren, Christopher P. Hardiman and his wife, Terri of New Gloucester, Megan Hildebrand and her husband, Kyle of Ellsworth, and Cooper P. Friend of Ellsworth; and a great grandson, Jack P. Hardiman of New Gloucester. In addition to her family, Bev will be missed by many special friends.

Friends may call 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., in Newport. Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 1st, at the High Street Congregational Church in Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Newport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the Newport Cultural Center, 23 Water St., Newport, ME 04953.
