CHARLENE CAROLINE (PATTEN) HILL
DEXTER - Charlene Caroline (Patten) Hill, 89, wife of the late Kenneth Hill of fifty-four years, and wonderful mother of two daughters, passed away on July 27, 2011 at Dexter Health Care. She was born in Dover-Foxcroft, November 28, 1921, daughter of Linwood F. and Bertha (Luby) Patten.

Charlene graduated from Dexter High School and then worked for the Call Studio in Dexter. Later on, she was employed by Plummer Memorial Hospital in Dexter in the Accounts Receivable Dept. as a main bookkeeper and held this position for thirty years until the hospital closed. She took much delight in this job, having loved this work, making many special friends.

Before retirement, Charlene and Ken enjoyed lots of music, which included the marching bands, and band concerts, which Ken played his trumpet in. They loved Dixieland jazz, attending many concerts featuring many jazz artists.

She loved people, always making new acquaintances, not only during employment years but in her retirement years as well. After they retired, they spent lots of their time in the summers camping near Mt. Katahdin, as they loved nature. Throughout his life, she was known for lots of happiness with a special sense of humor, always encouraging and caring for all who knew her. She loved the Boston Red Sox, and was an avid fan for years. She enjoyed making and sharing her fudge and pies. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than words can tell. Her nieces and nephews were all very important to her as well.

She appreciated the services from CHC Hospice, the caring service of Pine Tree Hospice, and from a special care provider and friend. She also appreciated the visits from her doctors so very much.

Surviving are her two daughters, Andria (Hill) Leonard and husband, Ray of Dexter, Sylvia (Hill) Crouse of VT; her grandchildren, Catherine (Leonard) Romanick and husband, Pat of Daculo, GA, Jeffrey Leonard of Bangor, Christopher Lagassee of VA, and Jennifer Crouse of MA; great grandchildren, Joshua and Juliana Hafner of GA, Abigail Leonard of Bangor, Yukari (Karly) Ueda of NJ, Alyssa and Christopher Lagassee Jr. of MD, Jessica and Shannon Dawkins of MA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Patten of Ft. Myers, FL; special cousins, and very special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, her sister, Ruth (Patten) Cleaves, a brother, Robert Patten, half brother, Clifton Mountain, and half sister, Pearl Mountain.

A graveside service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter will be announced at a later date. At her request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of Pine Tree Hospice, 883 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426, or to Dexter Health Care, 64 Park St., Dexter, ME 04930.
