OBITUARIES
DONALD C. AMES
GREENVILLE, Donald C. Ames, 84, passed away at home October 19, 2009 after a long illness. He was born June 4, 1925 in Kingsbury, the son of R. Cecil Ames and Eva I. (Campbell) Ames. Donald was drafted October 13, 1943, and chose the Marine Corp., where he served until March 1st, 1946. He served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was involved with the landing of Okinawa and was there when the Japanese surrendered. Donald was discharged March 1st, 1946, and worked for Scott Paper Company for 39 years. He was a heavy equipment operator and also worked on the pulp drive.
Donald is survived by his wife, Annabelle (Minniear) Ames, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1984. He is also survived by a daughter, Donna C. Stewart; a son, Ralph D. Ames; 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; friends, Bruce Rooney and Bert and Helen Gill of N.J.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Greenville Cemetery, conducted by the members of the American Legion.
