Donald Vernon Pushor
GUILFORD- Donald Vernon Pushor, 77, went home to be with the Lord May 30, 2012. He was born May 1, 1935, in Pittsfield, son of the late Harold and Ethel Pushor.

Donald spent his formative years, growing up in Pittsfield, and was a graduate of MCI. From MCI he pursued his goal of becoming a pharmacist and worked his way to graduation from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. This is where he met his wife Eileen. Upon graduation he went to work for Humphries Pharmacy in Pittsfield for a year and a half. He then was hired as a pharmacist at Ohmart and Hinckley in Brewer. He worked for two years in Brewer and then became the pharmacy manager at the newly opened store in Hampden for the next eight years. For years it was his dream to own and operate his own store.

In 1969 that came to fruition. He purchased Ross Drug Store and operated that business for 31 years. This was a true family business with all members of his immediate and many extended family working with him. In 1999 he sold the store and became a pharmacist with Rite Aid for 10 years.

He completed his employment career at Osco Pharmacy Dover Foxcroft, from which he retired at the age of 75. He would tell you that if he had his way he would still be working today.

Donald was a true community leader, mentor and confidant. He believed strongly in community service. In his quiet, ever polite, but confident manner he served his community as a 40 year retired member of the Guilford Fire Department. He served as selectman for 10 years. He was president of the Hampden and Guilford Kiwanis chapters. Most importantly he was the friendly ear to many members of the community. His charity was in the delivering of prescriptions after hours to the sick and those who were simply lonely. He received the pharmaceutical association 1990 Bowl of Hygeia Award and in 1995 had the Guilford annual report dedicated to him.

His love beyond family was fishing, hunting, and gardening. He lived for hunting trips to Brandy Pond, Charleston and in recent years to his camp in Parkman. He would look forward to the annual spring fishing trip with family and friends. No annual trip was more important than that spent with his wife Eileen at their camp on Lower Wilson Pond.

Nothing was more important than family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eileen (Curtin) Pushor; his children Donn and wife Katie of Lebanon, Kim of Wiscasset, Shawn and wife Anita of Abbot, and Chris of Bradley. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Terri. He is also survived by his sister Diana of Dover Foxcroft; and predeceased by his sister Maxine of Exeter.

There will be visiting hours Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Guilford United Methodist Church from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at the church 10 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2012, with Pastor Stephen Dean officiating. The committal will immediately follow at Lawn Cemetery in Guilford.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Guilford Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 355, Guilford, ME 04443 or the Guilford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 267, Guilford, ME 04443.
