MAJOR DONALD W. CURTIS, (RET) USAR
PALMYRA - Major Donald W. Curtis, 75, (ret) USAR, died November 13, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 2, 1925 at Bristol, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of George and Ella (Elkins) Curtis. He was a graduate of Aroostook Central Institute, attended aircraft school at Quoddy Head and was a graduate of Officer Candidate School. A Veteran of World War II, Don also served in the European theater as part of the Army of Occupation. He served 20 years of active duty overseas in Germany, Newfoundland, and Iran, and later stateside, retiring from the Bangor Army Reserve Center in 1963. After retiring from the military he worked as a quality control inspector for Edwards Corporation in Pittsfield, and later, as a self-employed upholsterer at Old Tavern Upholstery. His interests included gardening, photography, the outdoors, carpentry, reading, traveling, and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ida Joyce (Green) Curtis of Palmyra; his children, Carl G. and wife Sheila (Howland) Curtis of Hudson, NH, and their children Bryan, Russell, and Carla Curtis; Patricia L. and husband Gary Jordan of Richmond, and their children, Heather and Chris Jordan; Gary W. Curtis and his companion Susan McMillan of Newport, Gary’s son Christopher Curtis, and Chris’s daughter; Richard L. and wife Celeste (Violette) Curtis, and children Terra, Garrett and Avery Curtis; Donna and husband Dale Holden of Madison, and their children, Nathan Cardozo, Cassidy and Haley Holden; siblings Audrey Knowles of Bucksport, Albert and Janice Curtis of Waldo, George Curtis and Robert Curtis of New Haven, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Ina Curtis.

Family visitation will be private. Graveside services with full military honors will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 15th, at Palmyra Village Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.
