OBITUARIES

EDITH M. POULIN
DETROIT – Edith M. Poulin, 73, died March 28, 2004 at her residence following a long illness. She was born May 24, 1930 at Bar Harbor the daughter of Royce and Esther (Sinclair) Garland. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. Edith was very active in town affairs: as charter member of the Detroit Fire Department Auxiliary, tax collector and election clerk. She had worked in her early years as a waitress at the Log Cabin Diner in East Newport; co-owned Poulin’s General Store in Detroit; and owned Edie’s Gift Shop. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest J. Poulin, in 1988; a son Daniel in 1971; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne, in 1993; and a brother Royce in 2003.

She is survived by her children, David of Detroit, Kathleen Burton and husband Dan of Felton, Delaware, James and wife Connie of Perham, Stephen of Detroit, Jennifer Welch and husband Frank of Dixmont, Susan Leighton and husband Ed of Limestone, Kevin and wife Kelly of Detroit, Royce and wife Tammy of Newport; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a special family friend, Carol McCarron of Detroit.

Private visitation will be held on Tuesday. A public funeral service will be held 6 P.M. Wednesday, March 31st, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Dan Burton officiating. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Detroit, later in the spring. Friends are welcome to join the family at the home of Kevin and Kelly Poulin following the service to celebrate Edith’s life.
