EDWARD R. BLAUVELT
WILLIMANTIC - Edward R. Blauvelt, 70, husband of Rita (Manning) Blauvelt, died Jan. 5, 2003, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born July 24, 1932, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., the son of Edward V. and Catherine R. (Regan) Blauvelt. Edward and Rita were married Dec. 30, 1960, in England. A U.S. Army and Air Force career veteran, he had retired as a SWAT commander at Hunters Point, San Francisco, Calif. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV, and several military reunion groups. Edward was an avid WVOM listener and weather reporter, and an outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hiking and fishing. He found pleasure in woodworking and art and was a published poet. A former Boy Scout leader, he was always interested in teenagers and loved to kid with them.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Willimantic; two sons, Master Sgt. Edward James Blauvelt, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Texas, and Tech. Sgt. David Peter Blauvelt, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Arizona; two daughters, Catherine Blauvelt RN, BSN of Saco and Regina Blauvelt RN, BSN of Corinth; three grandchildren whom he raised, Heather Anne, Pfc. Geoffrey Paul and Shawn Michael Blauvelt; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Nicole, Jessica and Jonathon Daniel, and Edward, Emily, Evan and David Jr. Blauvelt; two great-grandchildren, Braden Black and Lexani Blauvelt; five nephews and a niece, and their families of New York and New Jersey; and a brother-in-law, Phillip DePasquale of Florida.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Twin City Baptist Church, 559 North Main St., Brewer, with Pastor Gary Turgeon officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
