Elena 'Dot' (Carter) Bird
CORINNA - ELENA "Dot" Bird, 91, the wife of the late Alton E. Bird, died June 22, 2001, at a Pittsfield hospital after a short illness. She was born March 14, 1910, in Etna, the daughter of John and Lena (Sylvester) Carter. She attended Etna schools and graduated from Newport High School. After attending Farmington Normal School for two years, she completed her education at the University of Maine in Orono, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She first taught school in Farmington Falls, then in Dixmont, Etna, Exeter and Corinna, teaching primary grades. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Corinna United Methodist Church, the Cleora Rebekah Lodge, the Amicus Club and the Corinna Literary Club. Dot will be remembered for her keen mind and wonderful sense of humor.

She was a beloved mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Donna Boody and her husband, Philip of Bangor; a son-in-law, Richard Parlee of Newport; six grandchildren, Scott Parlee and his wife, Pam, Laurie Hadlock and her husband, Parker, Darcy Parlee, Rick Boody and his wife, Terra, Ronda Boody, Robyn Missbrenner and her husband, Mike; four great-grandchildren, Krystal Parlee, Ilka and Finn Hadlock and Noah Missbrenner; a sister, Gwen Harvey of Moodus, Conn.; two brothers, John Merrill Carter and his wife, Joyce of Portland, Paul Carter and his wife, Elcena of Kenington, Md. Dot was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara J. Parlee and two brothers, Frank and Dudley Carter.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Morse's Corner Cemetery in Corinna, with the Rev. Diane Danielson officiating.
