ELOISE (WEEZIE) S. STEVENS
MONSON, Eloise (Weezie) S. Stevens, 86, wife of the late Forrest E. Stevens, died peacefully on February 8, 2003 at a local health care facility. She was born in Monson, August 20, 1916, the daughter of Frank P. and Phyllis (Pennington) Steward. She attended Monson schools and graduated from Monson Academy. She was a member of the Monson Community Church, Tisbury Manor Chapter DAR, life member of Dawn of Hope Grange now Valley Grange, Monson Historical Society, and Monson Preservation Society. She participated in the Cooperative Extension program in the 40ís and 50ís helping women to modernize the home and daily life. She lived most of her life on the family homestead on the Steward Road. She and her husband kept the farm active for many years raising cattle and many beloved pets. She worked for the United States Postal Service in Monson and Guilford. Her many hobbies included floral arranging, gardening, and collecting antiques. She was known for her historical and genealogical knowledge. She was also well known for speaking her mind and was considered the family matriarch. She was predeceased by her husband Forrest, and her younger sister Millicent S. Robinson.
She is survived by her eldest sister Thurley S. Knowles; niece Jillaine Ward and husband Richard; great nephews Jayson, Adam and Andy Hunt; 2 great great nephews and nieces; sister-in-law Zelma Stevens and family, as well as many cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the many people who have helped to care for Eloise over the last few years, especially those family members and friends on the Steward Road.
Friends may call 6-8 PM Wednesday February 12, 2003 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street, Guilford. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Monson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Eloise and Forrest Stevens name, to the Monson Academyís Trustee Fund, c/o John Greenleaf, P.O. Box 251, Monson, ME 04464.
