ETHEL M. BYRON
NEWPORT & YORK Ethel M. Byron, 96, died September 27, 2001 at a York hospital. She was born August 12, 1905 at Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of John and Agnes MacDonald. Ethel was predeceased by her 3 husbands, Howard Sheldon, Orville Sawyer, and Stearle Byron; a grandson Richard Lovering, Jr., her son-in-law, Richard Lovering, Sr., her sisters, Mabel MacColl, Ruth Williston, Ruby MacDonald, and Myra MacDonald; brothers Duncan MacDonald, and Burton MacDonald. She had owned and operated the Oxbow Cabins for 8 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield and the New Era Auxiliary at the church. She also belonged to Newport Senior Citizens and the H. G. Libby Women's Relief Corps in Newport. She moved to Kittery in 1996 to be near her daughter, and later moved to Sentry Hill in York. She has most recently attended the Advent Christian Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

She is survived by 2 sons, Leon and his wife Betty Sheldon of Millbrae, California, John and his wife Janice Sheldon of Palmyra; a daughter, Elizabeth Lovering of York; a step-son, Eugene Byron of Linneus; 1 step-daughter, Madeline Davis of Wrentham, MA; a sister-in-law, Shirley Haars of Mirimachi, New Brunswick, Canada; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by Debra Driscoll, and John Perry.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday with the Reverend Gerald Scott and the Rev. Russell Carle officiating. A committal service will be held at Brooks Memorial Park, Eliot, Thursday at 11 A.M. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
