OBITUARIES

EVELYN M. (PROVOST) PACKARD
CORINNA- Evelyn M. (Provost) Packard, 91, widow of Charles M. Packard, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta after a long period of failing health. She was born in Brockton, MA, September 27, 1919, to Elmer and Marie E. (Hanson) Provost and was a 1937 graduate of Brockton High School. She had resided in Maine for over 20 years.

Mrs. Packard was a WW II veteran of the Woman’s Auxiliary Army Corps, (WAAC) stationed at Fort Myers in Florida and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She achieved the rank of Corporal.

After her wedding, she and her family lived for a number of years in Brockton, Mass; West Bridgewater, MA; Hampton, VA; San Diego, CA, and South Easton, MA, as her husband Charles’ company transferred the family as his job required.

Following the death of her husband, she fulfilled her lifelong dream to own and live on a farm, when she and her oldest son Charles moved to Corinna, Maine from Massachusetts.

Evelyn had a great love of animals and kept horses and sheep on her rural Maine 50 acre property. Her favorite was her great horse, Aladdin.

In addition to her son Charles, of Skowhegan, she leaves her other son, Philip, of Fall River, MA; and two daughters, Joanne of MA and Marie Blanchard of Skowhegan. She also leaves her brothers, Wilbur Provost and his wife, Florence of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Gordon Provost of Brunswick, and Walter Eldon Provost and his wife Regina of Sarasota, FL, her four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Paul, Elmer, and Lester.

Visitors will be received at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St. in Dexter from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, June 22nd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Thursday, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. Kent Ouellette. Graveside committal services will be held 2 PM, Friday, June 24th, at the family lot next to her husband in the veterans section of Melrose Cemetery on Pearl Street in Brockton, MA.
