Frank E. Watson, Sr.
He had a 30 year career in the Iron Workers Local, and was often called a steel walker. He frequently intimidated the younger workers by walking the steel beams 50 feet or higher with no apparent fear. Frank travelled all over the United States building hospitals, coal processing plants, wood mills, bridges and nuclear power plants and even spent some time in Nigeria.
When Frank retired, he couldn’t sit still and started a business supplying cedar posts all over New England. Frank harvested and processed cedar posts on his homestead in Charleston.
Frank is survived by his companion of 30 years Alice Stubbs; his daughter Kimberly A Watson of Hampstead, NC; his sons, Frank E. Watson Jr., of Hickory, NC; Scott A. Watson of Belfast; and Alice’s children, Linda Stubbs Weston, Lewis Stubbs and Benjamin Stubbs, all of Bangor; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; 9 brothers, Thomas, John, Dale, Murray, George Lewis, Raymond, Jr., Herman, Terry and Charles; and 5 sisters, Louise, Patricia, Harriet, Betsy, and Lydia.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Delina Watson of Palmyra; foster parents, Herman and Patricia Hamm of Stetson; sisters, Barbara and Lillian; brothers, George F., James and William; and the mother of his children, Marsha L Watson.
Frank will be deeply missed by all he touched but we know he is looking down on us with his little smirk.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 15th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St, Newport, with the Rev. Donald Booker officiating. Those who wish may leave written condolences at www.CrosbyNeal.com.
