JAMES A. RICHARD
DEXTER, James A. Richard, age 79, died August 4, 2003 at Dexter Health Care in Dexter following an extended illness. He was born March 13, 1924 in Moulies River, Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada, son of James and Dorothy (Ramsey) Richard. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1942, and attended Hebron Academy. He enlisted in the US Navy December 8, 1942 and served in World War II, Pacific Theater as an aviation mechanic. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946. On November 7, 1946, James married Eileen Landerkin in Greenville. He worked 25 years for the A&P Tea Company and 12 years for Bud’s Shop & Save, living in Greenville, Brownville Junction, Oakland, Bingham, and Dexter. He was a member of the Cardinal Mercier Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a communicant of Saint Anne’s Parish in Dexter. Jim was a member of VFW Post 4298, and American Legion Post 53 where he was a past commander. He enjoyed his camp and good friends at Pleasant Pond in Caratunk and The Forks. He spent many wonderful summers fishing, canoeing, and watching the water.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Eileen; son Charles J. Richard and his wife Patricia of Fort Kent; daughter Juliana J. Richard of Bingham; son Michael F. Richard and his wife Debra of Raymond; and son John L. Richard of Gorham; grandchildren Melanie, Ryan, Tracy, Aaron, Danielle, and Heather; and great grandchildren MacKenzie, Michael, William, and Casey. He is also survived by his sister, Katharyn Munster of Rockwood; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 6-7 pm, Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., in Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Morency officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Gardiner on Friday at 3pm with the Rev. Fr. Brian Blanchette officiating.
