OBITUARIES

JAMES K. MARTIN
SANGERVILLE- James K. Martin, 96, died September 8, 2011, at his home in Sangerville, from an age related illness. He was born June 9, 1915, in Eagle Lake, son of David and Annie (Lafferier) Martin.

James enjoyed growing up with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He was educated in Eagle Lake schools, and held many jobs throughout life.

In his early years, he cut and trucked pulp. He came "south" and became Town Manager of Guilford, as well as Town Manager of Sangerville. He became a Senator for the State of Maine for four years, moving on to be senior director of Maine housing, where he was involved in 49 different housing projects for the elderly throughout the state, retiring in 1978.

He was best known throughout the area as an owner and landlord of rental property, continuously setting up and renovating older mobile homes, and as the man who lived in the house with the bright yellow roof.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with the boys.... And maybe a shot of whiskey now and then. James and Sherry had many adventures as they tried to buy, sell, fix up, and rent James properties over too many years to count.

James is survived by two daughters, Janine Martin of Bodega Bay California, and Gloria Boutot of San Diego, California; a special former daughter-in-law, Mildred Martin of Eagle Lake; a special grandson, Philip Martin Jr. and his wife Sherri of Sangerville; a great grandson, Devin Martin of Sangerville, the life line James held dear to his heart; also several other grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; three brothers; and a long time bookkeeper and dearest of friends, Sherry French and her husband Jim of Guilford.

He was predeceased by his wife Stella 2002; a daughter Jacqueline in 1947; a son Philip Martin Sr. in 2002; and a son James Martin Jr. in 2005.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eagle lake on Saturday, September 17th at 11:30 AM, with Fr. James Nadeau celebrant.

He will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Stella in Fort Kent.
