JOHN B. GREENLEAF
He graduated from Monson Academy and attended the University of Maine at Orono. John worked for Guilford Industries for many years, retiring in 2008. He served in the Air National Guard from 1975 to 1984. He was an officer of the Monson United Church of Christ and of the Monson Alumni Association. Back in the day, John loved motorcycling with "the man".
John was well known throughout Maine and New England for his dedication to Masonry. He served as Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Maine during 1997/1998, and was a Past Master of Abner Wade Masonic Lodge of Sangerville where he served as Secretary for thirteen years and was a member of Mt. Kineo Lodge #109 in Guilford. John also was the District Deputy Grand Master of the 5th Masonic District in 1988 and 1989. He was also an active member of the Anah Shrine's Past Masters Unit and traveled statewide with the Unit for a number of years.
John also served as the Worthy Patron of Fireside Chapter No. 103 Order of Eastern Star in Clinton and Susie Carr Chapter No. 181 in Sangerville. John was a Past High Priest of Piscataquis Royal Arch Chapter # 21 and a Past Illustrious Master of Central Council No. 18 Royal & Select Masters, both of which met in Dover Foxcroft. He was a member of St. Johns Commandery No. 6 Knights Templar in Bangor; Tamerlane Conclave No. 4 Red Cross of Constantine in Bangor (currently serving as Senior General); and was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Bangor & Valley of Portland.
He is survived by his mother of Monson; 5 siblings, Susan Flynn and her husband, James of VA, James Greenleaf and his wife, Margie of Wells, Jeffrey Greenleaf and his wife, Sandee of Windham, Joel Greenleaf and his wife, Margarita of OH, and Shelley Knowlton and her husband, Tim of Abbot; and 12 nieces and nephews. John was also close to his favorite dogs, Dee and CJ.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Mt. Kineo Masonic Lodge in Guilford, where Masonic services will be held at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, November 17th at the Monson United Church of Christ with Rev. Chad Poland officiating. Private burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Monson.
