Joyce E. Girt
While residing in Illinois, Joyce was employed in the food service industry. While living in the Boston area, she was employed by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority driving a bus in Boston. She was active in the Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589, and was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU). In 1990, she married Robert Girt.
After moving to Maine, she was the secretary for 3 years for the Etna Pond Lane Road Association and was active in assuring the success of the association. Joyce loved to hunt and fish. She was involved in a yearly football pool and was an avid NASCAR fan. She also enjoyed riding her Arctic Cat ATV and visiting friends.
She is survived by her husband Robert of Carmel; mother, Ruth Whipple; brother, James Whipple; sister Julie and husband Mark Millhollin; former sister-in-law, Paula Pappas; 3 nieces, Kariann Millhollin, Allyson Whipple, and Brandy and husband Mike Fisher; a nephew, Kyle Millhollin; 2 great nephews, Chase Fisher and Ayden Whipple; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and close friends, Pam and husband Jeff Hand, Ed Brown, Chris Schultz, Becky Harriman, Michael Santos, Tucker Turner, Natalie and husband David Brewer, Kevin Provost, John and wife Mary Swenson, Mark and wife Rhonda Baillargeon, and Alan Ross.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Rollin and Cora Farnam, and Harry and Lena Whipple; her father; and her first husband Mark Snyder in 1989.
A memorial service will be held 11 A.M., September 1st at the Carmel Full Gospel Church of Restoration, 965 Main Street, Carmel. Friends and family will gather in the church dining room following the service for refreshments. Donations may be made in memory of Joyce and in honor of the great nephew, Chase Fisher to Hand in Hand “Programs for Children with Disabilities”, 3860 Middle Road, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722.
