Leah E. Bussell
WELLINGTON- Leah E. Bussell, 89, died February 1, 2013, at a Skowhegan nursing home. The eldest of four children, she was born July 17, 1923, in Wellington, the daughter of Leon and Gladys (Whitehouse) Trafton.

She grew up on the family farm and developed a great love for animals. As a girl she had a saddle horse and loved riding, and helping her father milking and caring for the cows. She married Charlie Bussell December 20, 1942, and shortly thereafter, Charlie went away to war. After returning from WWII, she and Charlie used the money that he sent home in order to buy the farm across the road, which they operated until the early 1960s. Leah worked at local factories retiring from Dexter Shoe Company in 1978. After retirement, she and Charlie opened their home to adult foster care. The house was always full of kids, both family and neighbors.

In 1986, Charlie died and in 1989 Leah sold the farm and moved next door. She was known as "The Bean Lady" and was famous for her home made baked beans, that she made and donated whenever there was a need.

She is survived by 2 sons, Lyndon Bussell of Harmony, and Vaughn Bussell and his wife, Darlene of Wellington; a daughter, Audrey Butler and her husband, Wayne of Wellington; grandchildren, Kendell, Stacy, Eric, Cory, Robert, Craig, Jodi, Jeff, and Tara; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Trafton and his wife, Frances of Wellington; a sister-in-law, Lynette Trafton of Skowhegan; a special friend, Gail Long of Warren; nieces and nephews, including 2 special nephews, Lloyd and Leslie Trafton; and 3 nieces who spent a great deal of time at the farm, Desiree Angles, Debbie Moody, and Dianne Fuller.

She was predeceased by a brother, Kleba; a sister, Vivian; grandsons, Kevin Butler, and Charles "Chuck" Bussell, and special friend, Stanley Curtis. She will be laid to rest with her beloved pets, Shadow and Dusty.

Friends may call at, 21 Oak Street in Guilford, from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 6th, with Pastor Ronald Bagley officiating. Spring burial will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Chadbourne Cemetery in Harmony.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wellington Volunteer Fire Dept. c/o Roger Ricker, 2 Carle Road, Wellington, ME 04942.

Leah's family would like to extend a special thank you to Woodlawn Nursing Home, Hospice of Somerset County, Leah's sister-in-law, Frances Trafton, Eva Butler, and Bonnie Rockwell, for their special care.

WELLINGTON- Graveside committal services for Leah E. Bussell, 89, who died February 1, 2013, will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Chadbourne Cemetery in Harmony, with Pastor Ronald Bagley officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford.
