LEILA HELENA (DOWNS) HERRING
DEXTER & GARLAND – Leila D. Herring, 83, wife of the late Milton S. Herring, passed away unexpectedly August 12, 2004 at her son’s residence in Garland. She was born in Atkinson November 29, 1920 a daughter of Maurice and Olive (Call) Downs. Leila graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1938, and married Milton in 1940. She worked at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, Witherly Farms in Dover-Foxcroft, and the East Corinth Shoe Shop. She married Milton in 1940.

She is survived by 2 sons, the Rev. Robert Herring and wife Judy of Cundy’s Harbor, Steven Herring and wife Barbara of Garland; 3 grand-daughters, Linda and husband Terrance McLain of Dover-Foxcroft, Allyson and husband Adam Gudroe, Angela and husband Kevin Armstrong II, all of Garland; 2 great grandchildren, Esther McLain of Cundy’s Harbor and Aaron McLain of Dover-Foxcroft; 2 step-grand-daughters, Angela and husband Kenneth Dorman of Exeter, and Elizabeth McKusick of Bangor; 1 step great grandson, Robert Dorman of Exeter; one brother, Maurice L. Downs and wife Pauline of Atkinson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Chester and Stanley Downs.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, August 16th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, with her son Robert officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
