LEOTA ERMA HOWARD BROWN
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Leota Erma Howard Brown, 92, wife of the late Robert M. Brown, died peacefully at home, Oct. 2, 2003. She was born March 11, 1911, in Glen Cove, Rockland, the daughter of Clarence F. and Evelyn (Goddard) Howard. A graduate of Farmington Normal School, she went on to the University of Maine to receive her bachelor and master's degrees in education. Her first school was in Thorndike and then she went to LaGrange, where she taught the primary grades and music in all grades. She retired from teaching after nearly 40 years, the last 35 years of which were with the Guilford school system. She enjoyed being vice president and president of the Piscataquis County Retired Teachers Association. Leota was also a charter member of the National Teacher's Honor Society and later became president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Omicron Chapter. She was an active member and past president of the Cosmopolitan Club and an active member of the A.A.R.P. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and a daughter, Roberta Lee Brown.
She is survived by a daughter, Dartha Jeanne Grey and her husband, Robert, of Dover-Foxcroft; two granddaughters, Jennifer Bombero of Dover-Foxcroft, Lorna Grey of San Antonio, Texas; three great grandsons, Paul Jr., Colby and Joshua Bombero, all of Dover-Foxcroft.
Graveside committal services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the family lot in Gray Cemetery, with Pastor Thomas Bruce officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
