LESTER CHARLES MASON
NEWPORT - Lester Charles Mason, 83, died September 13, 2000 at the home of his son, Dr. Peter Mason, in Bath. He was born September 14, 1916 at McCammon, Idaho, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Hanson) Mason. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1936. Lester was a welder at Electric Boat Company in Connecticut from 1940 to 1945. He married Vivian (Mitchell) Sigrist on April 2, 1941. After they moved to Newport, he owned and operated Mason's Welding Shop for 50 years. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, and liked to give produce to friends and neighbors.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Dr. Peter C. Mason and wife Louise of Bath; a step-son, Fredric Sigrist and wife Ruth of Londonderry, NH; 2 brothers, Webber Mason of Dexter and Glen Mason of Skowhegan; 2 sisters-in-law, Secha Mason of Skowhegan and Estelle Mason of Dexter; 4 grandchildren, Peter A. Mason, Russell Sigrist, Richard Sigrist, and Joel Sigrist; 2 great grandchildren, Aaron and Ashley Sigrist; many nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Linda McSweeney of Saugus, MA. He was predeceased by a brother Dewane.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, September 16th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Michael Stephenson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call from 1 P.M. Saturday until the time of service. Burial will be in Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, ME 04953.
