OBITUARIES

LEWIS L. McLEOD
WINTERPORT and DOVER-FOXCROFT - Lewis L. McLeod, 78, died Nov. 13, 2001, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Brownville Junction, Feb. 20, 1923, the son of Kenneth H. and Mabel B. (Stevenson) McLeod.He attended elementary school in Shirley and graduated from high school in Roseland, British Columbia, Canada. He also graduated from Beal College. Mac enlisted in the Edmonton Infantry Regiment First Division in 1940 and served in Scotland. He transferred to the Cavalry Regiment First Army Tank Brigade and served in North Africa, Italy, Dieppe and other European Campaigns during World War II. He was then detached to the British Commando Regiment for six months training. Mac served on several committees of the Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was active in community affairs in Winterport and served on the school board. He was a member of the American Legion VFW forty and eight, he was a Mason member of York Rite Bodies and past patron of the Eastern Star. Mac was an avid golfer, loved travel and fishing. He spent two winters in Mexico and several winters in Florida. He retired from the Bangor Daily News as credit manager with 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cora (Lewis) McLeod of Winterport; two sons, Nat B. McLeod of Winterport, William L. McLeod of Vermont; one grandson, Patrick L. McLeod of Vermont; two brothers, Kenneth E. McLeod of Fort Pierce, Fla., Harry A. McLeod of Otisfield; two sisters, Ruby King of Scarborough, Myrtle Ronney of Buckston, several nieces and nephews.

Private interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Those who wish to honor his memory may contribute to the Winterport Union Meeting House, P.O. Box 683, Winterport 04496. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service, Bangor
