Lurene C. Houston
GUILFORD- Lurene C. Houston, 97, died October 11, 2013, at Pleasant Meadows in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born October 29, 1915, in Monson, the daughter of Emil and Thomasine (Johnson) Carlson.

She graduated Valedictorian from Monson Academy and graduated from Farmington State Normal School.

She taught school in Durham, Bowdoinham, and then for many years at the Guilford Primary School. She delighted in teaching and remembered her first graders decades later. She was a member of the Zephyrus and Abaris Clubs in Guilford, and was a member of the Guilford United Methodist Church.

Lurene’s faith and her family were of utmost importance to her. She was also very proud of her Swedish heritage, and enjoyed carrying on the tradition of preparing Swedish dishes for her family and friends. Lurene was an accomplished seamstress from which many people (and dolls) benefited.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Gail and Kent Burdin of Guilford; a son-in-law, Garrett Morrison of Unity; 7 grandchildren, Lynne and her husband, David Olson and their son, Ryker all of Garland, Tyler Morrison and his wife Joanna and their children, Jacob and Julianna all of Orono; Ryan Morrison and his wife, Christine and their children, William, Sophia and Katherine of Eddington, Karin Parsons and her husband, Christopher and their children, Taylor Bethel of MA, and Drew, Emma, and Owen of Farmington, Jane Burdin of Burlington, VT, Roy Burdin of Farmington, and Abby Burdin of Guilford; nieces and nephews, Carolyn and her husband, Jack March of NC, Sonja and her husband, William Davidow of CA, Connie Smith and her husband, Bart of AZ, and Pam Garrett and her husband, Harold Garrett of PA, and Robin Tara, and Christopher Houston of ME.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Houston; a daughter, Thomasine Morrison; a granddaughter, Jill Burdin; 3 sisters, Fritzene Carlson, Cynthia Petrie, Reinette Scribner; a brother, Kermit Carlson; and 2 nephews; Philip Scribner, and Jon Houston.

A private graveside service will be held at the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford.

A reception and time of remembrance will be held Monday, October 14, 2013, from 3 to 4:30 PM, at the Guilford United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
