MARGARET "PEGGY" HARDING
NEWPORT & CARMEL - Margaret “Peggy” ( McDonough) Harding, 82, widow of Vernard R. Harding, died peacefully with her loving family by her side April 30, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born August 12, 1922 at Carmel, a daughter of Stephen and Edith (Smith) McDonough. She graduated from North Providence (RI) High School. Peggy and Vern were the owners and operators of Progressive Press for many years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Newport, the Eastville Grange in East Newport, and was Past Matron of Nokomis Chapter #42, Order of The Eastern Star. Peggy will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Stephen and James McDonough; and a great granddaughter, Morgan Halston.

Peggy is survived by a son, Jerry and wife Juanita of Petal, Mississippi; 2 daughters, Nancy and husband Ralph Underhill, and Joyce Shoum, all of Newport; a sister, Arlene Shaw of Hermon; a brother, Richard McDonough of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Kenneth and wife Jerilyn Underhill of Newport, Timothy and wife Wendy Underhill of Corinna, Rebecca and husband Michael Ferry of Purvis, Mississippi, Eric, Sr. and wife Jessica Harding of Petal, Mississippi; great grandchildren, John Riley Scriabba, Abigail Ferry, Brianna Harding, Eric Harding, Jr., Lauren Margaret Underhill, Kendra Underhill, Ashley Perry and Amanda Perry; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, May 4th, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Newport, with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 39 Grove Street, Newport, ME 04953. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital for the wonderful care provided to our mother and the family during Peggy’s final hours.
