MARION C. COY
DEXTER —Marion C. Coy, 97, a long-time resident of 14 Park Street, Dexter, died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2000 at Maine General Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge, Augusta, where she had been a resident since November, 1999. She was born January 24, 1903 at Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Franklin E. and Mabel (Brown) Chandler. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1921, Farmington Normal School in 1926 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1956. Marion taught school in Dover-Foxcroft for three years and in Topsham for one year. She then taught in Dexter for thirty-eight years, with her last position being principal before her retirement in 1965. Marion touched the lives of many in her hometown and was an active member of her community, belonging to the First Baptist Church of Dexter. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Wassookeag Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and held several other star offices as well. She was a member of the Eastern Star Club, the Dexter Day Extension,the Piscataquis County Retired Teachers’ Association, the Maine Retired Teachers’ Association, the National Retired Teachers’ Association and the Golden Age Club. She was an active volunteer with the Dexter Historical Society.

She is survived by her nephew, Donald C. Hoxie and his wife, Joyce of Augusta, and their children, Gregory Hoxie and Melanie Young; her niece, Ann McCarthy and her husband, Robert of Augusta, and their children, Patrick, Mark and Brent McCarthy, several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles M. Coy and her sister, Louise Chandler Hoxie.

There will be no visiting hours.Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, June 26th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Jay Brennan officiating.
