MARY LO SHAHAWY
BANGOR, Mary Lo Shahawy,72, died July 22, 2002 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing
home. She was born July 29, 1929 in Guilford, daughter of John and Charlotte
(Hudson) White. She graduated from Abbot Academy in Andover, Mass and later
attended Colby College in Waterville. Ms. Shahawy traveled extensively in
her twenties and early thirties, living abroad for many years. She was
particularly fond of the Middle East. She was a Past President of the
Charlotte White Center Board; and was a member of the First Universalist
Church of Sangerville. She spent the last few years of her life working
extensively to better conditions and care for those suffering with mental
challenges. She was recently a past chairperson of the BMHI QIC. She is
survived by a daughter, Shireen Shahawy of Portland; a sister, Betsey Cousins
of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law, Norma White of Guilford; a nephew, John White
of Florida; and a granddaughter, Allison Stinneford of Portland. A memorial
service will be held at the Crosby & Neal funeral home, 21 Oak St., Guilford,
at 11am on Saturday, July 27, 2002 with the Rev. Dr. Alec Craig officiating.
Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Guilford. The family requests there
be no flowers, instead, donations may be sent to the Charlotte White Center,
c/o Robbie Butcher, P.O. Box 380 Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
