RICHARD "DICK" SAVAGEAU Richard attended Beverly High School in Massachusetts and was U.S. Army veteran of the Berlin Crisis and a member of the 382nd Airborne Unit. He moved to Newport in 1974. He was a well known boiler maker with a Master Oil Burner Service license, spending over 30 years in the trade with over 15 years as the owner of Atlantic Refractories. Richard also served as a member of the Newport Fire Department and Newport Police Department for 10 years during the 1970's and '80's. After he retired, he worked as a concierge for the Asticou Inn for 8 years and spent the last year working security for Hollywood Slots. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf, hunting, fishing and stock car racing. Richard had a "larger than life" personality and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to anyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lisa Savageau of Palymra; 5 children, Ricky Savageau of Hancock, Alice “Ellie” Witham and her husband Jason of Hartland, Stephen Savageau and his wife Denise, Christopher Savageau, and Joshua Savageau, all of Palmyra; 6 grandchildren, Crystal Weerden and her husband Patrick, Justin Witham and his wife Patrice, Dylan Savageau, Matthew Savageau, Jesse Witham and Amber Savageau; and 1 great grandchild, Drew Weerden. He is also survived by his best friends, Glen and Dawn Lewis. A memorial service will be held at 5 PM Friday, July 22nd, at Nokomis Regional High in Newport for those wishing to share fond memories of Richard with the family.
