ST. ALBANS - Ruth (Lary) Springer, 84, died October 14, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born July 20, 1916 at Skowhegan the daughter of Jessie and Ethola (Parkman) Lary. She attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Morse High School, Farmington Normal School, and Skowhegan Business School. She taught school in the towns of Fayette, Monson, and Bath. Ruth married Victor L. Springer in 1956 and stopped teaching to work full time as bookkeeper for her husband at Springer's Building Center, currently ACE Hardware store in St. Albans. She was an active member of the St.Albans Union Church from 1956 until her death. Ruth was the church missions secretary nearly from the time she joined the church until 1999. She was a member of the Chatterbox Club in St. Albans and the Order of The Eastern Star in Hartland. She was a former member of the Outlook Club and the Grange.

In addition to her husband of St. Albans, she is survived by one brother and his wife, Dana and Brenda Lary of Bowdoin; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Merton, Kenneth, William, Sherburn and Bernard. Donations in her memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 201 Main Street, Suite 6, Westbrook, ME 04092.

Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. A graveside service will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 17th at the family lot, Crocker Cemetery, St. Albans, with the Rev. Charles Talmadge officiating.
