SIDNEY SMITH SKIDGEL, SR.
PLYMOUTH & ETNA - Sidney Skidgel, Sr., 90, died August 26, 2009 at his daughter Carol's Etna residence. He was born February 23, 1919 at Woodland a son of James and Helen (Smith) Skidgel. Sidney served as an aircraft mechanic in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Barrows-Skidgel Post # 105 American Legion in Newport, which was renamed in honor of his son Donald, who was killed in Vietnam and posthumously was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He owned and operated Skidgel's Warehouse in Freedom.

Sidney is survived by his children: Diane Button of Caribou, Robert and wife Ruth Guerette of Carmel, Diana Stewart of Plymouth, Carol Small of Etna, Mildred Skidgel of Florida, and Sidney Skidgel, Jr. of Plymouth; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Crystal, sons Robert and Donald, a grandson Paul, and siblings Adeline Burroughs, Woodrow Skidgel, Edna Dyson, Lois Skidgel, and Avis Harrington.

A military graveside committal service will be held 3 P. M. Wednesday, September 2nd, at Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. A reception will be held at the home of Carol Small, 92 Burke Lane, Etna. The family would like to thank his grandsons Bill DuJardin and Dillon Small, and the assistance of hospice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
