WILLIAM EDWARD SMITH He came to Maine in the early forties, and started working for Bath Iron works. Bill later moved to Dexter and worked for Fay Scott Landis. He met and married the love of his life, Marie Clukey whom he married in June 2, 1945, and they lovingly raised six children. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. In the mid eighties he retired and learned to play golf, which became his second passion after his family. He is survived by 2 sons, William Smith Jr. and his wife, Phyllis of TX, Anthony Smith and his companion, Holly of FL; 3 daughters, Christine Pooler and her husband, Carroll, Cynthia Cyr, Michele Smith and her companion, Rick all of Dexter; 11 grandchildren including his little buddy, Joshua; 10 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard Clukey and his wife, Mary of CT; also all of his girls at Bud’s. He was predeceased by his wife in 1993, a daughter, Nancy (Smith) Burton in 1964, a grandson, Matthew Pooler in 2000, a granddaughter, Amanda Cyr in 2001. Friends may call Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
