BOOK REVIEW: Third Degree
Book written by author Greg Iles
This reader patiently awaits each new book by this prolific author and is seldom disappointed, his latest effort being no exception.

As the jacket aptly describes this book, and I quote: "---his latest tour de force thriller – an unforgettable plunge into a world of sex, violence, marital betrayal, medical malpractice and Southern intrigue – all of which takes place in the span of one furious, terrifying day."

That pretty much sums it up for you. This humble reviewer has some problems with the above noted contents, in that it seems almost too much for only one book. Perhaps it should have been offered as a series, to spread some of the deceit and criminal activity around in smaller doses. While fascinating in its over-abundance of plots, it is a little too much to absorb, or believe, as the occurrence of one short day in the lives of these not very nice people. There is love, yes, and there is betrayal on all sides, and there is danger and excitement and death and destruction enough from which to make at least four films, which may have been the author's intent.

All in all, however, it is indeed Greg Iles at his best story-telling, and well worth the reading. The writing is flawless, the far too many characters are carefully drawn, and while the action toward the end is not quite believable it is certainly exciting and interesting. Moreover, it is written by Greg Iles, and that's enough for me.
