Wallingford, Ct As a former resident of New Sweden, (that little 700 person, town above Caribou), I long, desperately for the
day when the Aroostook Republican goes "online." I AM, however, very thankful for the news that can be
received from YOUR web site, and that of the Bangor Daily News.
Have you heard whether or not the Aroostook Republican is going "cyber" anytime soon????
Keep up the good work, and know that at least THIS guy, from Ct, is perusing your articles for hints of the
communities which are North of Caribou.
I would consider becoming a representative of your company for the "upper" portions of Maine, if you have
been considering coverage of these areas. Make me an offer! I'm sure that there are MANY misplaced
"Mainiacs" in the lower 50 that would love to know how folks up there are adjusting to the poverty that is
banging on their doors, since the pull-out of the Limestone Airbase.
Thanks, ahead of time, for any exposure you can provide, of these all but forgotten portions of Maine.
They are CERTAINLY not forgotten by us!

Bowlegs, OK The Ogre and The Angel
I was on KOCO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Oklahoma City last Wednesday night. They called me and wanted to do a segment on the children's story I gave to the State of Oklahoma. Our Lieutenant Governor read it, loved it, and turned it over to our Department of Human Services for reproduction and distribution. It really helps kids.

If you want to see if I'm legit, you can check out the KOCO-TV website-

http://www.kocotv.com/

They still have link to my site-

http://members.tripod.com/~helpthekids/index.html

where I'm GIVING away a story that saves children.

It's called "The Ogre and The Angel." Kids love it and it helps them. I'm not just saying that because I wrote and illustrated it. Judges, teachers, sheriffs, and psychologists all over Oklahoma have told me the same thing.

I know you're busy, and you don't know me, but it would only take a few moments of your life to visit my site and see if it interest you. If you don't want to help me give the story away on a grand scale, that's okay. If nothing else, though, please visit the site and print out the story of "The Ogre and The Angel" and read it to a child you know. I guarantee it will help them forever. The last quatrain of the story reads:

"And the Ogre learned the lesson,
That it's never ever naughty,
When ANYONE is hurting you,
To go and tell somebody."

I'm not a con artist. I'm an ex-con, and I'm an artist, but I'm not a con artist. I'm just a guy who was raped in prison and can't stand the idea of children having to suffer what I did. You might not approve of me, but that won't stop my free story from helping kids. You can prove I'm legit by going to the KOCO-TV website. I'm offering you a story which has been proven to protect children from abuse. I'm offering it completely and immediately free. Seems like a no brainer to me....

Again I apologize for sending you this unsolicited mail. I've read that it's considered impolite. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but one million children were abused in the United States last year.

Many thanks,

M.W.Hardgrove

Bowlegs, OK 74884
franklin@renet.com
http://members.tripod.com/~helpthekids/index.html

[I send out hundreds of these invitations a night. I type each one by hand, so I don't call it "spamming." This is the only way I know to get word out over a large area to direct parents and grandparents to a free story that saves children.

But since I'm emailing you in Maine, I thought I'd add a little note of interest...

When I was in prison, I read a lot. I mean, a lot. There were two choices: Stay in your cell and read, or go to the dayroom and get your nose broken. I read constantly.

I wrote a fan letter to Stephen King from an address I'd found in Danse Macabre. A month or more later, I'm sitting at my desk (i used my clerical gifts to get out of the cottonfields) when the mail guard hands me a postcard. I looked at it. It was a form response from Stephen King's secretary. I tossed it to my desk, wondering what it must be like to be Stephen King.

An inmate acquaintance of mine picked up the postcard and said, "What's this?" I told him it was a xeroxed thank-you note from Stephen King. He read for a while, and said, "Not all, it ain't. Look down here." He pointed to the bottom of the postcard where a scribbly hand had written:

So, "Different Seasons" is going for two bags of Maxwell House!
That's great. Liked the cartoon on the envelope. I'm tempted to
say, "Hang in there."

That encouragement from Mr. King will make more sense when you know that the cartoon I drew was of an ancient longbearded prisoner hanging off the ground by wrist manacles on a stone wall.

I was thinking of committing suicide when I got that postcard from Stephen King. Please understand, in Texas prisons in those days, suicide was not considered crazy. It was thought of as "unscheduled parole."
But those macabre words of encouragement helped turn the tide in my thinking. I'm still paying my debt to society, but he helped me see the debt as mine to pay.

Now, the convict that Stephen King encouraged has been out of prison for two and a half years, the Lieutenant Governor praises him for writing his children's story to fight abuse, and the state TV station does a segment on him and puts the website where he's giving away the story on their website.

Now I'm not telling anybody how to run their business, but that's a great story. I know Mr. King would remember it. Seems like the kind of story he'd want known...or should.)

STEPHEN KING ENCOURAGES CONVICT:
CONVICT FIGHTS CHILD ABUSE.

Allentown, PA Hi Judy...I just have to tell you that I visit this web site EVERY DAY because I enjoy it so much! I was delighted to find the e-mail addresses of several people I know, or have known, listed in the guestbook (what a great way to contact people I have lost touch with over the years)! I even found the e-mail address of a former high school English teacher, and was delighted to hear back from her after I e-mailed her a quick note! I just finished reading a few of Fred Wintle's "Looking Back" stories, and I found myself smiling at his remembrances of childhood in Dexter (he mentioned Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Whitney, and other teachers who were also my teachers...really brought back memories!). Anyway, before I write my OWN book here, I'll just say this: You're doing a GREAT JOB with this web site, Judy! Keep it up!

E. Taunton, Ma. Hi everyone, Hope you all are keeping up the great spirit of true Maine people, this is what I miss most about Maine. The natives are such open and helpful people especially when one is in need as this week-end has done to alot of families. Mother nature has not been good to your area this past week. God-Bless and keep the faith ,
