HI yall from down South. The weather has been great as of lately with temperatures near high 50's everyday this week. Tonight is the big ole Happy New Year tradition with the annual Peach Drop in the downtown Atlanta area. It has nothing to compare to NY's apple but it is great as more than 100 thousand people celebrate the New Year. The wife and I are looking forward to to 2004 as we begin to plan our family. We also look forward to coming up North once again in the summer. So to the class of 87 let's get together and party the new year in this summer.

hello daily maine guestbook! i love the state of maine. especially jackman. my dad, aime a. vigue was born there. he passed away 10/29/01, and is now buried there. does anyone out there know him, and have any stories to tell? let me know. i love hearing about the "old" days. his parents were william, and dezilda (maheux) roy veilleux. his siblings were arthur roy, mary roy, yvonne, titnom, and gerard vigue, isabella, and ??. every time we have come up, we've seen moose. this past summer, we saw 7! what a sight! thanks to all the locals in jackman who always show their kindness. a big hello to my cousin, jimmy gourde, and his wife rayle.

I read with great interest the letter from Senator Paul Davis dated 21 October 2003. (Letters to the Editor) I think Senator Davis is right on with his comments regarding taxes, not only on property but the tax base overall in the State of Maine. A national study was recently released relating to states and taxes. Maine is in first place on taxing income, the highest in the nation. I believe it ranked 3rd highest in the nation on property tax. A more recent study revealed that 46% of families in Maine are currently living below the poverty level, this study was conducted by the US Government. The wages earned in the state are some of the lowest in the country. One has to ask themselves when is enough, enough... Mainers need not set back and just accept what is thrown their way. If your wondering why an "flatlander" cares what is happening in Maine it's because Maine will always be my state and Dexter my home, so you see I do care and God willing someday I'll return to my home where I hope I can afford to live a comfortable life. I strongly urge all who care to contact your representative's and fix the tax problem now.

Countryfolk Music Theatre
Just finished a wonderful musical "Country" summer here at the Countryfolk Music Theatre. We finished the season with a two day Country Music Weekend at the West Farmington Grange Hall. It was a Country Jamboree and Dance weekend that raised funds for our Youth Music Scholarship Program. We met our goal and next summer we'll be able to give $500.00 in youth music scholarship awards. YEA!!
We also helped start a Musicians of Maine program on MT Blue Cable TV-11 in Farmington. If you perform, or know someone that does, call me right away. We are syndicating the show to other cable TV stations around Maine and currently have our show going into 30,000 homes each week. Also ask your local cable provider to schedule this show in your area. Its available free of charge. If you are intersted in performing, call me for more details at 207-645-3705 or email me or call the show producer, Dick Stevens at 207-645-4748.. Its open to all musicians. Its our way to help showcase Maine talent...
Thanks for coming to visit us and hope you will be able to bring your neighbors next summer. Best always, Larry (Bisbee)

My condolences to Deborah LESSARD Ronco and her wonderful family during this great time of sadness and grief in their mourning of their mother. May God let her rest in peace.

Deborah and I met in kindergarten at the Spring Street School. She was the first girl and last girl I have ever danced with. See the impact your first love has on you!!??! Then they transferred her out of my school just when I found out there were no such thing as "cooties". Well, that was my loss and I am sure her husband, Michael's gain. I just wanted to leave this message to an old and dear and hopefully not lost friend.
If you get a chance, copy down my email address (jfbcib1@cs.com) and drop me a note. I do occasionally get up to Dexter to Greenville to visit an old buddy and possibly sometime, stop by and say hi to you and your family. Take care and I am truly sorry about your mother's passing

Hello, I recently came down with a disease called “RSD” I have found out that this ‘poem’ covers a lot of illness’s I hope this makes Others happy for a moment…
General Advice From RSD Patients
Don't allow yourself to live up to others' expectations,
live up to your own, they are more reasonable.
Don't be ashamed to say "I can't do it now.
" People that don't see you struggle each day
don't know better; you have to tell them.
Accept who you are today. We can't look back, only forward.
Learn to forgive.
Know that it is your heart and soul that makes you the great person you are,
not your physical capabilities.
I wish for all my RSD friends to have.................
:Comfort on difficult days.
:Smiles when sadness intrudes
:Rainbows to follow the clouds
:Laughter to kiss your lips
:Sunsets to warm your hearts
:Gentle hugs when spirits sag
:Friendship to brighten your being
:beauty for your eyes to see
:Confidence for when you doubt
:Faith so that you can believe
:Courage to know yourself
:Patience to accept the truth
:And love to complete your life
((((Gentle Hugs)))) PJT

Freddie, it was so good to read your story and to know that my grandfather left an impression/memory on someone else. You really brought Grampie and Grammie back to life for me and Slinky also. I had forgotten all about her. Once you crossed the lawn and greeted Slinky, the next thing you would have seen would have been the bleeding heart bushes beside the front door steps. Do you remember those? They came flooding back into my memory. Thanks for the great memory! I can't begin to tell you how much that meant to me. Oh, and if the class of 1971 has a (gulp) 35th reunion in 2006, I sure would like to be invited to see some of my old friends even though we moved away at the end of my 8th grade year. I do remember you and your brother and all of your sisters and especially fifth grade and Mr. Clukey's class when you put those taps on your shoes and it was your week to ring the bells for all the classes and recess! You would try to sneak back into the classroom quietly and it just didn't work! What a hellion you were then! But always the greatest guy!

Thank you Judy for the picture of the old Dexter Fire. Dept. Hand Tub. I had the fun of helping to restore the Hand Tub many years ago with Ernie Robinson, Chet Bailey and other names that I can't remember. I have copied the picture and taken the picture to our local fire dept. I received a Dexter Fire Department shoulder patch from Roger Salley a few days ago. I will add it to our collection of patches from all over the country. I am very proud to tell fellow firemen about D.F.D.
I belong to the Cedarburg Fire Dept. with many retired Fire Fighters. Char my wife says I spend allmost as much time at the station as I did in Dexter. I just say once a fireman always a fireman. As I read the messages in the guestbook it brought back memories of Moxie Falls, Borestone Mt.so many great times spent in the area.
Have A Great Summer. Jere & Char Richardson

If anyone knows or where we can get them we will be quite thankful. Hope everyone has a nice July 4th. Our church will be in the Bangor Parade. Enjoy your towns celebrations. Thanks Pat

Hi Yall Northerners,
Well as we all know the Redsox are up to there usual playing.. First in the division before the All Star Game.. just hope that this year is unlike any others and we kick the Yankees out and lead the East to the Playoffs.
The Braves are doing excellent and are on track for the best year. The bats are hot as well pitching has been a success. As an Atlantan I have come accustomed to the best record but hopefully we can over come some curses and make another shot for the World Series.
WEll a little update on myself and the wife. We are doing great and it is very hard to believe our one year anniversary is just around the corner (Sept. 21). We are planning a trip to SAn Francisco for 6 days and 5 nights. I wanted to go back to the Cancun, Mexico but the wife had no interest after surviving to hurricanes during our honeymoon. School is going great as I am out for the semester.. can't wait to hit the books once again this Fall as I plan to pick up Statistics and Acct 2. I have actually began studying and reading material so I will be one step ahead of my fellow peers.
Hope all is going well up North and maybe the year 2004 we will get back home for a little vacation. Miss all the friends and look forward to hearing from the class of 87 or there abouts. Guess the next reunion may be the big 20th..

If you think this war is far away and doesn't involve you (except for maybe preempting you favorite TV show) Think again.
I live on a small street in El Cajon that ends in a cul-de-sac.
The 14 families on my street include:
2 Chaldean (they're the Christian Iraqis from Central Iraq) families
1 Assyrian (Christian Iraqis from Northern Iraq) family
1 American family where the husband is on the USS Constellation in the Gulf
1 American family where the husband is Navy and they usually have 1 or 2 Navy men as boarders.
1 Palestinian (Christian) family (mine)
1 Iraqi Kurdish family
1 American family where the father is US Border Patrol
1 Iranian and Russian Bahai family

That's 9 out of 14 with direct ties to this War and the War on Terrorism. And I feel safe in saying that as good neighbors all the rest are tied to it too.(A couple of others I know have friends ready to ship out) Whether it's the one who was observant enough to notice the "Arab" kids weren't playing out side after 9-11 and went to the mothers and told them to open their garage doors and send their kids out, we'd all take care of each other, or the minister who prays for all sides or just those who always wave as they drive in and out. We are all neighbors. We are diverse, we are one neighborhood, we span the globe and we live next door. We cover the spectrum when it comes to opinions but we remain neighbors and friends not adversaries or enemies. (As an aside, my daughter has a Kurdish friend with two brothers in Iraq for months translating for American forces).
Whether you're pro war or anti-war express your opinion, standup for what you believe, conduct discussions with respect for the other side. Remember that what we are fighting for is the right to have an opinion and to express it, whether we agree with another's opinion or not. If we believe in freedom of speech we must be ready too fight for it. I must be ready to stand in front of my friend's or my foes and say what I believe to be true. For some this means going to peace rallies, for others this means going to war, for me it just means daily discussions with others' prejudices, but we must all stand for what we believe.
If you think this war doesn't belong to you I argue that it does. If you do nothing, you are to blame for the outcome, more than the war protestor or Bush. If you see wrong and do nothing you are to blame. It is up to you to decide what is wrong. It is up to you to make a difference. It can be as simple as being nice to your neighbors. It can discussing the pros and cons with your neighbor. It can be joining a march of anti-war, pro-war or pro-troops marchers. It can be discussing it with your kids (or parents). But take a stand for what you believe.
The great thing about America is, that though it's far from a perfect democracy, one person can make a difference. Just as the straw broke the camel's back, your opinion can be the one that turns the tide.
If you still can't see this as your fight look around you and see what you think is worth fighting for and do something about it. Do not say "Oh that's somebody else's problem", for they are all truly your problems, just as you are the solution.
As another indication of how close this war is, in the middle of writing this memo, I spoke to a co-worker who's a neighbor of the American soldier killed when the two British helicopters collided. And it hasn't gone un-noticed the casualties Maine has suffered.
And remember whether you're pro-war or anti-war what we all want is the same PEACE!

Judy,
"Jasper plowing" reminds me of the winters I spent at the farm on the Sangerville/Dexter road. I remember snow up to the top of the telephone poles. Of course, now, I expect it was really a matter of perspective (my 4-year old height looking up over the plowed snowbanks making them appear to touch the top of the poles.
Anyway, it's a tall tale to tell the youngsters of today.
God bless you and all your guests. Dan
